Maiju Loukola is an artist-researcher (Doctor of Arts) and a university lecturer in the Doctoral Programme in Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in University of the Arts/UNIARTS Helsinki. She worked as a Postdoctoral researcher at Aalto University (Aalto ARTS) School of Arts, Design and Architecture during 2015–2020.
Maiju's artistic + research practice involves with space and site/situation, and moving-image-related practice, and often times has a performative element. Her primary research interests are politics of space, site and situation related arts, urban space, artistic research and visual culture theories.
Maiju is a member of the FLOATING PERIPHERIES – MEDIATING THE SENSE OF PLACE research project funded by the Academy of Finland (2017–2021) and of the CITY AS SPACE OF RULES AND DREAMING (Kaupunki sääntöjen ja uneksunnan tilana) research project funded by the Kone Foundation (2021–2024).
