ABOUT
Maiju Loukola is an artist-researcher (Doctor of Arts)
and a university lecturer in the Doctoral Programme in Fine Arts
at the Academy of Fine Arts in University of the Arts/UNIARTS Helsinki. She worked as a Postdoctoral researcher at Aalto University (Aalto ARTS) School of Arts, Design and Architecture during 2015–2020.
Maiju's artistic (+) research practice deals with urban space and site-relatedness, often involving a moving-image-related or performative element. Her primary research interests are politics of space, site and situation related arts, urban space, artistic research, visual culture theories.
Since August 2021 Maiju is the head of CITY AS SPACE OF RULES AND DREAMING (Kaupunki sääntöjen ja uneksunnan tilana) research project (funded by Kone Foundation 2021–2024). She was one of the initiators of the FLOATING PERIPHERIES – MEDIATING THE SENSE OF PLACE research project funded by the Academy of Finland (2017–2021, https://floatingperipheries.fi/ )
